Fearless Faith (2020) opens with the statement that it’s inspired by real-life events, a genuinely believable claim that law local enforcement and their families as well as circle of friends and community members can verify every single day. Dealing with violent criminals and psychos means playing the game of death any number of times on an average day.
Our hero is Deputy Colton (Jason Burkey), a cop whose lives with the scars of his colleague’s death by a criminal’s bullet while they were on duty. The bullet also left a dent on his faith in the divine. But things begin to change one day, when he saves a pastor’s wife from an intruder. As Pastor Michael (Ben Graham) rides along with Colton and works to restore his faith, an unseen tragedy lies ahead that would leave the characters and the audience shaken.
Fearless Faith is notable for good cinematography, casting, and details of the police patrol procedures. No surprises to learn that Mark E. McCann, Rushing’s co-author on the screenplay, has spent nearly thirty years in various roles in law enforcement. The movie is free of fluff and scenes transition very smoothly, maintaining a rhythm. There’s humor in several moments with Deputy Jacob (Chance Gibbs) and Deputy Shep (Ben Davies) as well as a few other supporting characters.
Faith, family, friendship, and the bigger-than-life destiny are presented in this touching tale of camaraderie, grief, and hope. The ending is powerful with a moving montage that you’ll need to watch all the way until the closing credits to get the complete picture. If you are a fan of the good guys in the police and want to see how the spiritual side of the universe connects to their lives, Fearless Faith is likely to touch your heart.
